A French company Oledcomm debuted LiFi – the first ever powered light that provides super-fast internet using infrared light for consumer use at the CES 2018 held in Las Vegas this month.

Oledcomm’s MyLifi is a modern desk lamp that provides secure wireless Internet access to any compatible device through the data-transferring power of LEDs. It is based on a new technology known as Li-Fi or Light Fidelity, which enables devices to connect via LED lights.

MyLiFi: A high tech lamp that beams broadband to your laptop

MyLiFi is a desk lamp with pure and elegant design, providing white dynamic lighting, a secure, fast (23 Mbs/-) and radio waves free LiFi connectivity. Provide your family with a digital detox option. It is a high quality LED light, with dimming and adjustable white colour temperature. It has already won 2 CES awards innovation under the categories “tech for a better world” and “Smart Cities”. It is controllable via an IOS/Android or web app.

MyLifi is considered as an alternative to the conventional Wi-Fi technology, which connects your computer to the internet using beams from invisible LEDs accompanied with a special dongle. The data is carried between the bulb and the dongle through invisible LEDs, which means the lamp doesn’t need to be switched on to connect. The product modulates and demodulates light signals transmitted from an LED and then converts it into useful data that your device can understand.

The lamp provides fast and reliable internet with low latency to connected devices. According to the company, it promises a top download speed of 23 Mbps, and upload speed of 10 Mbps. The smart lamp comes with a dongle and can be pre-ordered now on Indiegogo for $840.
